About Us

We first began collecting Craftsman furniture in the 1990’s, when we purchased a beautiful oak chifferobe from my great grandmother’s estate sale.
We loved the chifferobe because it represented a piece of family history. But it was more than that, the strong lines, and the rich quarter-sawn
oak grain was so stunning, that we soon found that we had a desire to find other furniture that would complement this powerful style.
Shady Grove Craftsman Furniture was created by John and Toni Ellingson. It is based at home at our 19 acre Haflinger horse farm in Poplar
Grove, Illinois. Poplar Grove is a rural community about an hour west of Chicago. The Ellingson family has farmed in this community for five
generations. We share Gustav Stickley’s romantic appreciation of the rural lifestyle. We have hectic careers in the city. But we love to come home
to our farm and our horses. We also appreciate our Stickley style home and our collection of craftsman style furniture.

We want to be clear with our customers that we are not crafting the Shady Grove Craftsman furniture ourselves. We have friends in central Illinois
that own a very small family operated furniture factory. After touring their small factory, we were impressed with their skill level and the quality
of their work. We asked if the would be willing to work with us to create some of our furniture. We worked closely with them until we had designs
that we felt represented our personal taste in craftsman furniture.
We hope that you enjoy our furniture as much as we do.
